Monrovia, Liberia – July 10, 2025 – As part of efforts to align skills training with labor market demands under the Government of Liberia's ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, the Liberia Research and Development Networks (LRDN), in partnership with the Agricultural and Industrial Training Bureau (AITB), has deployed enumerator in eight counties to begin data collection for a Nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Gap Analysis and Compliance Monitoring Study.
This initiative is fully funded by the Government of Liberia through the AITB.
This study seeks to conduct a comprehensive assessment of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Liberia, with the aim of evaluating the extent to which TVET programs align with national standards and the evolving demands of the labor market. The primary objectives include: identifying existing skills gaps within the workforce; assessing the adequacy and relevance of training facilities, instructional materials, and equipment; evaluating the effectiveness of current training programs; analyzing institutional compliance with national regulatory frameworks; and examining trends in enrollment and graduate employment. The study will also engage industry stakeholders to ascertain their skill needs and expectations. Based on the findings, the study will provide evidence-based policy recommendations to enhance the quality, relevance, and responsiveness of the TVET sector in Liberia.
TVET plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development, contributing to SDGs 4, 5, and 8 by promoting equitable education, gender equality in training access, and youth employment. However, Liberia’s TVET sector continues to face challenges such as outdated curricula, limited infrastructure, inadequacy in training delivery, and lack of data-driven interventions.
This research seeks to provide actionable insights to inform stakeholders in enhancing the quality, accessibility, and relevance of TVET, which will ensure no one is left behind in Liberia’s development journey.
